End of My Hot Streak!!

Upper sac
I was in Redding on friday for a work training. I was out at 3 and since i was only a few miles away from the lower sac... you guessed it!

Over-enthusiastic selfie
I had work the next morning so I was only able to hit it for about 2 hours but it was beautiful. I had never fished the lower Sac but I have heard outstanding things about it.  The area I was fishing was a public park but it  had a couple of nice riffles in it. The ground was covered in large slippery rocks which were hard to walk on but I was able to handle it without falling. I did have a couple of close calls but remained fairly dry.

I tried one spot right under the bridge and I started off with a stimulator. The day was a bit windy which made for some interesting casts but even the wind teaches me lessons on how to be a better fly fisher.

matched the hatch a bit too late
As I moved downstream, based on a fellow Kiene's Forum blogger recommendation, I tried a yellow egg under an indicator as well as a beaded rubber leg prince. Neither produced for me. I gave them a good 1/2 hour each but nothing. After a while I also tried an adult mayfly imitation but that didn't work either. He also named a bunch of other patterns that I had never heard of so obviously I didn't have any of these.

Last but not least I pulled out the old thin mint. It and woolly buggers in general were not on the list but I figured why not?! It also did not produce. Another fly i tied on but did not produce was a brownstone #6 because it really resembled something I saw on a rock walking over there.  On my walk back to the car i found another one. upon closer inspection, it seemed that this "thing" was dried up and the top was missing. I took that to mean that something (possibly a mayfly?) had hatched out of this a few days or weeks earlier. It was still cool to compare the two.

On the way back to the car I had an older lady take a picture of me all waded up for the Facebook. An old man walked up with a big grin on his face after I had taken the picture and asked, "Aren't you supposed to have a big fish in that picture?" to which i responded, "Catch and release!" He didn't have to know I got skunked! haha

Well anyway, that was my first experience on the lower sac. I fished from about 3-5 with no results and I also forgot to take a panoramic picture for you guys which i have been doing on my other posts but I did take this one for your enjoyment.

This trip concluded my fish catching streak but it was still a good time. A bit of an update, spring is in the air but in the valley it's already summer! the air is warming up and that means that my winter season is up and a winter report will be coming soon.

OBN and USAL

I have not had a pleasant experience with what is called the “Outdoor Blogger Network.”  For whatever reason both times I have attempted to promote some of my posts, it hasn’t worked.  I was able to create a profile the first time but that was all. I remember waiting for them to promote my post and nothing.
This time around I updated my profile and added myself to the directory and figured maybe that is what I was doing wrong. I was wrong. I added myself to the directory, checked and realized I was nowhere to be found in the directory.

I tried once again to promote my posts but this time I posted two of them and for whatever reason it just doesn’t happen! I have checked everyday since and nothing.

Well, considering that it doesn’t seem to work for me, I removed the badge and am leaving this network that shows no evidence of me ever having been there!

If you have any ideas about what is going on, let me know. Otherwise, I’m perfectly okay with not being part of this network.  Either way, I have all of you and folks that  find my blog through the Kienes  board and The Fish sniffer.

As for fishing, I haven’t been in a while. With the recent storms and cloudy weather, I’m a bit hesitant to even go out and risk getting rained out. It is supposed to clear up next week so next Wednesday I might try to make my way out to Putah, Boss pond or Butte Pond. I guess I will let you guys know.

I also have the (now) yearly  trip to Usal  trip with my Chico buddies coming and I am pretty excited about that! If any of you have any tips on crabbing from the beach or surf fishing, please let me know!
That’s it for me. Get your fish on, folks!!
